The ShadowLands (Map and Description)

Map of the ShadowLands

The ShadowLands Icon, based on ancient writingThe ShadowLands are separated from other lands of its planet by a large expanse of water known as the 'Malignic Ocean', which is far too wide for any creature, dragon or faerie, to fly across. Ships have not been considered as a good idea, because they are impracitcal and uneccesary for travel inside the lands. There have been some reports stemming from Shade City about using boats, and theories about using these boats to reach other areas. However, none yet have been discovered.

Inside the Ocean, however, there are four basic realms that are inhabited. Three are known to the public, and are shown in the map above. The Clensing Chambers (AKA Cairo's Crypt) have not been acknowledged by the public as a new realm. However, it will be treated as one, as public opinion may change.

Draco Reaches

Draco Reaches Icon, based on dragon bodyDraco Reaches is part of the only ground-based continent of the Shadow Lands. Most of it is known as the 'Draco Mainland', and is home to many of the dragons. A few, however, live on the island chain west of the mainland, known as the Miret Islands. The best known zone in the islands is called Sushi Shores, and is a reletive hotbed for fishing. Other sections of Draco Reaches that are identifiable on the map is Talon Peninsula to the northeast, Egg Peninsula to the southwest, the Isthmus of the Rose (famous for its zone, the Rose Garden), and Stormy Bay in the southsoutheast (Just below Stormy Terrace, and is most likely the entrance to the infamous Clensing Chambers). On the eastern coast, the Passage of Fate can be seen, called such because it took three days to fly from the shore to Prisma Tors, if fate was on your side to help you make the journey.

Prisma Tors

Prisma Tors Icon, based on faerie wingsThe Tors are actually a second continent, but with one difference— they float. Unlike Draco Reaches, Prisma Tors is not limited to the land, and used to inscribe a lazy eliptic around the planet, making it difficult to judge if they were close to Draco Reaches or not. In the past 5,000 years, however, the faeries have developed the magic required to keep the Tors within close range of the Draco Reaches, to its east.

Although the Tors are not anchored, they have fixed positions relevent to each other, preventing one island from splitting off. Some of the islands float at different levels, which contributed to their names. For example, the Lower Prisma floats about one kilometer off the water, and the Upper Prisma floats at two kilometers. The Crystal Prisma, the southwest island, floats highest of all at three kilometers into the air, and is a military base. The Iron Prisma floats at 2.5 kilometers, and is the prison for all of the Shadow Lands. The northern island chain floats at roughly 1.5 kilometers, and is known as the Isles of Light. The Isles are famous for their natural light shows.

Shade City

Shade City Icon, based on building designShade City is the peak of an underground mountain, which is part of a mountain chain that trails off of the Draco Mainland. The mostly Marian Population there has completely developed the peak, depending on rooftop greenhouses and plant cloning techniques to support their crops and the fishing industry on the outskirts of the peak for meat. Surprisingly, The city has done very well. Few dragons live there, causing the lack of demand for large livestock.

The Marian Temple located on the island also contains the famous 'Xoyto's Disc', a talisman developed 4, 200 years ago by the Priestess Xoyto as a permenant spellbook and as a vehicle to house her shadow, guaranteeing immortality. Unfortunately, the disc hac never been tested to see if her bid for immortality actually worked.

Spanning the distance between the southeast Draco Mainland and Shade City is a swamp created by a chain of small islands. This piece of wetland is known as the 'Bleeding Swamp', as its ownership has been hotly disputed for the past 50 years. The marians want ownership of the land for the development of bridges and a boat railway, connecting Shade City to the Draco Mainland. The dragons, however, fear this would cause a rise in ADC activity (most of it negative) and want ownership to block the railway's progress.

Clensing Chambers (Cairo's Crypt)

The Clensing Chambers Icon, based on a poisonsnake headThis unknown territory is a series of underground caves right below the Draco Mainland, with an entrance at Stormy Bay. The Crypt is controlled entirely by the ADC, and contains mostly housing for ADC members, stored records, stables for the ever-growing 'collection' of dragons and dragon-kin found on travels to other worlds, a dragon museum (mostly cultural artifacts and statuary of dead dragons from the collection), and Cairo's personal housings.

Very little else is known about the realm... and Cairo will make sure it stays that way!
